Around 42 numbered main gates after the modern expansions, plus additional doors within the complex. The numbers are posted above every entrance and are easy to read from a distance, even at night.
The gate assigned on your Nusuk Rawdah permit. Men and women are directed to different gates and different visiting hours, so check the permit details and follow the on-site signage and staff directions.
Bab al-Baqi (Gate 41) on the eastern wall is nearest the Sacred Chamber. Visitors giving salam typically move along the eastern side of the mosque and exit towards the Baqi cemetery.
Women's prayer areas are reached mainly through the gates on the northern side of the mosque. Signage marks the women's entrances, and staff redirect visitors at busy times.
Agree on a gate number before entering, since every gate is numbered on this map and on the building itself. Landmark gates such as Bab as-Salam (Gate 1) or the King Fahd Gate on the north side are the easiest to find.
