Saudi Arabia has announced a major change to its Umrah visa regulations, reducing the validity period for entry from three months to one month from the date of issuance. The adjustment applies only to the time allowed before entering the Kingdom, while the duration of stay after arrival remains unchanged at three months, according to a report by Al-Arabiya citing sources from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
The change comes amid a record-breaking Umrah season. Since the beginning of the new Umrah year in early June, more than four million Umrah visas have already been issued to international pilgrims — the highest number ever recorded within the first five months of the season.
Key changes in the new Umrah visa regulations:
- The Umrah visa will now expire 30 days after issuance if the pilgrim has not entered Saudi Arabia.
- The three-month stay period after arrival remains unaffected.
- The new regulations are scheduled to take effect next week.
Officials say this move is part of the ministry’s strategy to better organize the flow of pilgrims and avoid overcrowding in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
Ahmed Bajaeifer, advisor to the National Committee for Umrah and Visit, explained that the decision is linked to expectations of a significant rise in the number of pilgrims as temperatures begin to drop and travel demand increases after the summer period. “The aim is to prevent overcrowding in the two holy cities,” he said.
The decision reflects ongoing efforts by Saudi authorities to streamline Umrah services, enhance crowd management, and ensure a smooth experience for millions of worshippers expected in the coming months.
